THURSDAY MORNING LAKULISH YOGA

 

DATE:     Every Thursday Morning

MORE:     Lakulish Yoga is a form of Kundalini Yoga. It’s primary focus is to build prana and inner heat (tapas) while mobilizing the spinal column. Lakulish Yoga postures draw the breath deep into the lower abdomen. Many of the Lakulish Yoga postures, therefore, center around building abdominal strength, spinal flexibility, and digestive fire. This class consists of specific Yoga postures that are done in combination with deep diaphramatic breathing (pranayama) and retention of the breath (kumbhaka). Postures are held and the body is allowed to relax into the openings. This is a gentle form of Yoga in which special attention is given to making the mind, body, and energy stable and comfortable.

For class, bring a yoga mat. You may wish to bring a towel as the heat will be on just slightly.

FRIDAY EVENING HATHA YOGA

MORE:     This class consists of basic Hatha Yoga postures, anulome vilome pranayama, philosophy, chanting, and meditation. The Hatha Yoga focus is on developing a strong foundation, through precise alignment and form.  This class builds energy in the spinal column and cleanses the body’s energetic pathways through a set sequence of yoga postures performed in combination with certain guided breathing techniques. The student is also guidede to pay attention to the energetic lines each posture creates. In class, Urja draws attention to Yamas and Niyamas as an important part of building and maintaining prana (vital life energy) built in the practice.

MEDITATION - Meditation is more than just a relaxation technique. It is a unique combination of focused concentration and deep relaxation which taps into the original source of your power. It dramatically calms the mind and takes you to the alpha and theta states of consciousness where you gain direct access to the healing abilities of your own prana (vital life energy). The class includes anuloma viloma pranayama, deep diaphramatic breathing, concentration, and mantra chanting. The individual will also learn how to set intentions for positive changes in their lives, minimize tension, relax and train the mind, clear up the unconscious, awaken creativity, enhance memory and learning capacity, counteract stress, promote willpower, and free the prana. In class, Urja draws attention to Yamas and Niyamas as an important part of building and maintaining prana (vital life energy) built in the practice.
